We Earth
WE EARTH
On Friday 17th January, at 6pm, in Genoa, at Leonardi V.idea/Art studio, the exhibition “We Earth” by Davide Ragazzi opens. The event is part of an international cultural event created by the artist Davide Ragazzi, called “Future Earth Projects”, consisting of exhibitions, user experiences and public presentations on the theme of Climate Anxiety and Eco-Anxiety in young people. The artist uses live art and work in progress as a creative tool to mitigate these particular forms of anxiety.
The first of these projects, “Future Earth. Young People Creativity on Climate Change was carried out in Venice in 2022 and was awarded during the 10th edition of the “Climate Chance” competition, organized by Shylock University Theater Center, sponsored by UNESCO, Ministry for Ecological Transition, CMCC Foundation, WWF Italy, Legambiente and ISDE. The second, “We Earth”, will be created in Genoa, Italy.
The heart of both projects is a large installation painted on paper, in acrylic colors, created by the artist together with young people from different countries, aged 16 to 24.
In the exhibition “We Earth” a large installation on paper divide into 9 modules, work in progress phase and 6 works, created between 2019 and 2021, will be presented to the public.
The large installation will be proposed with some unfinished modules, on January 17, in the vernissage. The incomplete modules will leave the exhibition venue and will return completely painted during the opening days of the exhibition. The artistic completion will be carried out, in the artist’s studio.
The young people who will participate in the artistic creation together with the artist Davide Ragazzi are: Fressia Antonella Huaman Castilla, Tetiana Karevska, Leonardo Paulo Mansilla Echevarria, Miia Nesh, Federico Panetta, Simone Pascuzzi and Anastasia Sazhina.
Other works on display were created by the artist during years of coexistence with the state of emergency declared by the Italian state to combat the spread of the Covid 19 epidemic.
“In these works,” says Enza Di Vinci, curator of the exhibition, “the pictorial gesture represents the relationship between the Oceans and the Earth and dialogues with the darkness of Space, rendered by the artist with a particular mineral black color; tiny brights dots enliven it to symbolize the vital element that always remains, even in the face of a negative or uncertain future; the light in the darkness”.
“In the work We Earth (2020) the horizon seems to create an absence, as if the globe were observing itself. It makes you wonder: how was the Earth or how is it? Waning Earth or rising Earth? An open and ongoing artistic work that stimulates research in the field of the visible, inviting us to imagine our destiny” (Leonardi V.idea/Art studio).
